Irritable Bowel Bladder Relief
February 4th, 2010
In the world today there are millions of people who are afflicted with a painful disorder called irritable bowel/bladder syndrome; it is often referred to as IBS. The symptoms of IBS include but are not limited to things like constipation or diarrhea, gas, bloating and sometimes intense stomach cramps. Many people with this disorder need to be close to a restroom so living a normal life is some times difficult for them.
While there are no real medical cures for IBS there are things that a person that suffers from the disorder can do to help themselves. Avoiding certain foods when you suspect that you have an irritable bowel/bladder is just one option. Some of the foods to avoid are dairy, grains, spicy foods, and acidic foods. You should avoid caffeinated and carbonated beverages as they are very rough on the bladder and bowel as well as cause more gas build up in the colon. You should also try to avoid any foods that are fermented, squash, mayonnaise and certain acidic fruit juices.
Just as there are foods that need to be avoided with an irritable bowel/bladder there are foods that one should eat. Fiber and water go hand in hand when helping the body fight against an irritable bowel/bladder. Fiber helps to push waste out of the system but requires water to keep the moisture in the body that fiber tends to use up. This is another reason to drink your eight glasses of water a day.
Learning relaxation techniques can also help getting one through an episode of IBs. Stress is linked to many disorders of the body and if a person learns to release the tension quickly the body will not hold onto it and suffer. Exercise is a great outlet for reducing stress as is learning different yoga techniques. Wearing more comfortable clothes may not keep from having an episode of IBS but will help keep from pressing too hard on the abdomen when an attack occurs.
There seems to be no clear cut cause of IBS but it can affect just about anyone, including children at any time. If you suspect that you may be having symptoms of this disorder you should see your physician right away.
